Terms & Conditions
[01] Acceptance of These Terms
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") are an agreement between you and John Truslow, doing business as BYTESLIP ("Byteslip," "we," "us," or "our"). They cover the website at byteslip.org (the "Site"), the downloadable apps we publish there, starting with mp4loom (the "Apps"), and the free tools that run in your browser on the Site, including Leafzagonal and Inspectrosite (SiteLens) (the "Web Tools").
By using the Site, by using a Web Tool, or by downloading, installing, or using an App, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Site, the Web Tools, or the Apps.
mp4loom also shows a short in-app Terms screen ("License and agreement") that you accept by tapping I agree before your first render. The in-app terms and these Terms work together. These Terms add detail, and nothing here takes away from what the in-app terms say. If the two ever seem to conflict about the app itself, the in-app terms apply to the app.
If you are under the age of majority where you live, please use the Site and Apps only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who also agrees to these Terms for you.
[02] Who We Are
BYTESLIP is the independent software studio of John Truslow, based in Hawaii, USA. It is a one-person studio, not a company with a support department. You can reach us at johnny@byteslip.org.
[03] Software License
mp4loom and any future Byteslip apps are offered free of charge. When you download an App from the Site, we give you a free, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use it on devices you own or control, for your own personal use, including making videos you share or publish.
The Apps are licensed, not sold. Byteslip keeps all rights not expressly given to you here. Unless the law allows it despite this restriction, you may not:
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble an App, or try to extract its source code;
- redistribute, re-host, sell, rent, or sublicense an App or its installer (APK) file;
- modify, re-sign, or repackage an App, or publish a modified version of it;
- remove or change any name, logo, or notice in an App.
Please share the link to byteslip.org/apps instead of the file itself.
Web Tools. The Web Tools, such as Leafzagonal and Inspectrosite, are free to use in your browser directly from the Site. You don't download or install anything, and the APK rules above don't apply to them. Please link to the tool's page instead of copying or re-hosting its code, and don't remove its Byteslip name or notices.
We may update, change, or discontinue any App or Web Tool, or stop offering downloads, at any time. We don't promise any particular feature, update, or level of support.
[04] Direct APK Downloads
mp4loom is distributed as an Android installer file (APK) directly from the Site, not through an app store. To stay safe:
- Get the App only from byteslip.org/apps. Copies from anywhere else may have been modified.
- Before installing, you can check the file's SHA-256 checksum and the signing certificate fingerprint published on the Apps page. If they don't match, don't install the file.
- Installing an APK requires allowing installs from "unknown sources" on your device. You choose to do this at your own risk, and you are responsible for your device's security settings.
Updates install over an existing copy only when they are signed with the same key, which is one more way to tell a genuine update from an impostor.
[05] Your Content
The songs, pictures, and other material you load into an App, and the videos you render with it ("Your Content"), belong to you or to whoever holds the rights to them. We get no rights to Your Content. mp4loom processes everything on your device: the song, any picture, and the finished video stay on your device and are never uploaded to us.
The same goes for images you open in Leafzagonal and similar Web Tools. Your source images and the resized or converted files you download are Your Content. They are processed in your browser on your device, are never uploaded to us, and Byteslip gets no rights to them.
Use only audio and images you have the right to use and process. You are solely responsible for every video or image you make, save, or share, and for any claim that comes from that material, including copyright claims on music or images you don't own.
[06] Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Site, the Web Tools, or the Apps:
- to break any law, or to infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights;
- to make or share content that is unlawful, harassing, or exploits anyone, including minors;
- to attack, probe, overload, scrape, or disrupt the Site or its hosting, including automated bulk downloading or tampering with the view and download counters;
- to distribute malware, or to pass off a modified copy of an App as genuine;
- to suggest that Byteslip endorses you or your content when it doesn't.
Lawful use only. Byteslip provides the Site, Apps, and Web Tools for lawful personal use only. We do not intend, encourage, or endorse any illegal use. You are solely responsible for how you use them and for any content you create or process.
Automated access (bots). For these Terms, “bot” means any automated agent, including crawlers, scrapers, indexers, AI training or data-collection bots, vulnerability scanners, uptime monitors that hammer the Site, headless browsers driven in bulk, and similar tools. Polite, rate-limited bots that identify themselves with an accurate user-agent and that honor robots.txt are welcome for ordinary discovery and indexing. Everything else needs our written permission first.
If you run a bot against the Site, you agree to:
- obey https://byteslip.org/robots.txt, including every Disallow, Allow, and Crawl-delay rule that applies to your agent (ignoring robots.txt is a breach of these Terms, not just a polite miss);
- keep automated requests to a modest rate—about one request per second or slower unless we have agreed otherwise in writing—and avoid bursts that degrade the Site for people;
- not harvest Site content for AI model training or fine-tuning, SEO spam, resale, or bulk republication without our written permission;
- not bulk-download APKs, hammer view or download counters, or abuse APIs or other non-public paths;
- use a clear, honest user-agent that names your tool and provides a contact URL or email when practical.
Permission. If you want to crawl or fetch the Site for research, indexing beyond ordinary search, archiving, or any higher rate, email johnny@byteslip.org first with your user-agent, purpose, and requested rate. Until we say yes in writing, stick to the rules above.
Our remedies. If you break these rules—or if automated traffic looks abusive—we may block or throttle IPs or networks, challenge requests, serve errors or empty responses, revoke access, and report abuse to your host or provider, without giving up any other rights or remedies. Automated traffic may be logged and reviewed as described in section [10] and the Privacy Policy.
Site inspection tools. SiteLens (Inspectrosite) and any similar Byteslip tools are meant for inspecting websites you own or have permission to analyze. Don't use them to attack, probe, overload, or harass any site, to scrape or collect data without authorization, or in any way that breaks the law or another site's terms or rules. You are solely responsible for how you use these tools, and Byteslip is not responsible for any misuse.
Image tools. Leafzagonal and any similar Byteslip image tools are meant for resizing and converting images you own or have permission to process. Don't use them to infringe anyone's copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights, including stripping or altering credits or watermarks on images that aren't yours. You are solely responsible for the files you download, publish, or share, and Byteslip is not responsible for any misuse.
[07] Donations & Pay What You Want
mp4loom is pay what you want, including free. The free download is the same App as the one you get after donating. Donating is entirely voluntary and optional.
- A donation is a gift to support Byteslip's work. It does not buy any goods, services, features, licenses, updates, or support, and it doesn't create any entitlement or contract for future work.
- Donations are processed by Stripe on Stripe's own pages. Your payment is subject to Stripe's terms and privacy policy. Byteslip never sees or stores your full payment details.
- Donations are generally non-refundable. If you donated by mistake, or were charged the wrong amount, email us and we'll do our best to sort it out, including a refund where appropriate.
- Byteslip is not a charity or tax-exempt organization, and donations are not tax-deductible charitable contributions.
[08] Site Content & Intellectual Property
The BYTESLIP name and logo, the mp4loom name and banner, the Leafzagonal name and mark, app icons, artwork, text, tutorials, and the Site's code and design belong to John Truslow / Byteslip and are protected by copyright and trademark law. These Terms let you use the Site, the Web Tools, and the Apps. They don't give you the right to use our names, logos, or marks.
You're welcome to link to the Site and to quote short excerpts with credit. Please ask before copying larger parts of it.
[09] Third-Party Links & Services
The Site links to and uses services run by other companies. These include:
- Stripe, for donations;
- YouTube, for the Jax Byteslip channel;
- the countapi visitor counter (countapi.mileshilliard.com) on the home page;
- Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), for fonts; YouTube (i.ytimg.com and www.youtube.com), for video thumbnails and the embedded player on the videos page (the player loads only when you press play); and jsDelivr (cdn.jsdelivr.net), for the chart library on the views page.
Those services have their own terms and privacy policies. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, availability, or practices. mp4loom itself has no internet permission and doesn't contact any of them, and the Leafzagonal page doesn't load any of them either.
[10] Statistics & Automated Visitors
The Site keeps simple, anonymous counts: how many times the home page is viewed each day, and how many times each App is downloaded, per day and per version. These counts store no IP addresses, no cookies, and no personal data, and known bots and automated tools are filtered out of those counts. The daily views are shown on the views page, and download totals appear on the Apps page.
Our host also keeps standard server access logs (IP address, time, URL, status, referrer, and user-agent). We review and collect information from those logs about bots, crawlers, scrapers, scanners, and other automated visitors—including their user-agents, requested paths, and related request metadata—for security, abuse prevention, and to understand how automated agents use the Site. The owner may review those bot traces in a private tool called botsmeller (not a public page; disallowed in robots.txt). See our Privacy Policy for details.
[11] Disclaimer of Warranties
The Site, the Web Tools, and the Apps are provided "as is" and "as available," without a warranty of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. Byteslip does not warrant that the Site, any Web Tool, or any App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or compatible with your device, or that any defect will be corrected.
In plain terms: a render can fail, stop early, or use a lot of memory, battery, and heat. Byteslip is not responsible for a failed or lost video, for wear on your device, or for how you use the result. A Web Tool conversion can also fail or give a result you didn't expect, so keep your original images. Keep your own copies of anything important.
[12] Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Byteslip and John Truslow will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, files, videos, profits, revenue, or goodwill, or any device damage, arising out of or related to the Site, the Web Tools, the Apps, or these Terms, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising out of or related to the Site, the Web Tools, the Apps, or these Terms will not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you donated to Byteslip in the twelve (12) months before the claim, or (b) fifty U.S. dollars (US$50).
Some places don't allow certain warranty exclusions or liability limits, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case they apply to the fullest extent the law allows.
[13] Indemnity
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless John Truslow and Byteslip from any claims, losses, damages, and costs, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that arise from Your Content, from your misuse of the Site, Web Tools, or Apps, or from your breach of these Terms or anyone's rights. A typical example is a copyright claim over a video you made with music you didn't have the rights to.
[14] Termination
You can stop using the Site, Web Tools, and Apps at any time, and you can uninstall an App whenever you like. We may suspend or end your access to the Site, the Web Tools, or downloads, and your license to the Apps ends automatically, if you break these Terms. When your license ends, you must stop using the App and delete your copies of it.
Sections that by their nature should survive, including Your Content, Site Content & Intellectual Property, the Disclaimer of Warranties, the Limitation of Liability, Indemnity, and Governing Law, continue after termination.
[15] Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll post the new version on this page with a new Effective Date. Changes apply from that date. By continuing to use the Site, Web Tools, or Apps after an update, you accept the revised Terms. An App update may also ask you to accept its in-app terms again.
[16] Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Hawaii, and you agree to their jurisdiction, unless the consumer protection laws where you live give you the right to bring a claim in your local courts.
[17] Severability & Entire Agreement
If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, it will be limited or removed only as much as necessary, and the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a provision isn't a waiver of it. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours, for example if Byteslip's projects move to a new owner.
These Terms, together with the in-app terms in each App and our Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and Byteslip about the Site, the Web Tools, and the Apps.
