Zoom the Android Screen With Accessibility Magnification
Built-in Magnification zooms part or all of the screen when you need a closer look—no third-party app. Use a shortcut for continuous zoom, a hold for temporary zoom, and Follow typing while you write.
What You Need
- Android phone or tablet (Android 13+ for the current Accessibility Help path).
- No apps required.
Turn on and use Magnification
From Android Accessibility Help. Many steps need Android 13+; Follow typing / Magnifier settings panel need Android 14+ where noted. Magnify keyboard needs Android 16+.
-
Step 1: Enable the Magnification shortcut
Open Settings > Accessibility > Magnification.
Turn on Magnification shortcut.
Optional: tap Magnification shortcut to choose Accessibility button, Hold volume keys, or Triple-tap screen (triple-tap can slow the device).
-
Step 2: Continuous (stay zoomed) magnification
Use your shortcut (for example tap the Accessibility button), then tap anywhere on the screen except the keyboard or navigation bar.
Drag with 2 fingers to pan; pinch with 2 fingers to change zoom. Use the shortcut again to stop.
-
Step 3: Temporary magnification
Use your shortcut, then touch and hold anywhere on the screen (except keyboard/nav bar). Drag to move; lift your finger to end magnification.
-
Step 4: Full vs partial screen
Settings > Accessibility > Magnification > Magnification type → switch between full screen and partial screen. Partial mode uses a movable magnification window.
-
Step 5: Follow typing (Magnify typing)
Open Settings > Accessibility > Magnification > Follow typing (previously called Magnify typing) so the magnified view follows text as you type.
On Android 14+, while magnifying you can open the Magnifier settings panel to change size, zoom, and (for partial) diagonal scrolling.
Samsung Galaxy Differences
- Path: Settings > Accessibility > Vision enhancements > Magnification.
- Choose triple tapping or the Accessibility shortcut to magnify.
- Turn on Move cursor while typing (Samsung’s follow-typing style option) if shown.
- Samsung notes that a triple-tap Magnification shortcut can make quick taps feel slower—change or turn off the shortcut if touch feels laggy.
