wal-mart.com didn’t connect. walmart.com scored 85 on Inspectrosite
By Johnny · Byteslip · scans run
After google.com, wikipedia.org, hawaii.gov, amazon.com, ebay.com, meta.com, and toyota.com, I pointed Inspectrosite at the old hyphenated spelling, wal-mart.com. That name never produced a score. The store at walmart.com did: 85 out of 100, grade B, on the real homepage.
Quick disclosure: Inspectrosite is Byteslip’s own free browser tool. The badge above is just a picture of the score from our scan of www.walmart.com, not proof of anything (anyone can type a number into a badge link). There is no badge for wal-mart.com, because that URL never returned a page. The real record is the scan itself: try wal-mart.com (it will fail to fetch from our server) or re-scan walmart.com.
wal-mart.com never produced a score
We started where the user asked: https://wal-mart.com/. Inspectrosite never received HTML from that name, so it produced no score.
Around 3:01–3:02 AM Hawaii time (HST) on November 6, 2026, the Byteslip server (the machine Inspectrosite fetches from) tried three times. Twice it reported “Connection timed out after 5001 milliseconds.” The third time it said “Failed to connect to wal-mart.com:443 after 1248 ms: Could not connect to server.” The raw proxy answered with HTTP 200 wrapping JSON that said ok=false.
Public DNS via dns.google said wal-mart.com had an A record of 161.170.244.20 (no AAAA, no CNAME). That only tells you what name resolves to. It does not mean Walmart the store or company is down. A site can look different from another network; we only report what Inspectrosite’s proxy saw. We did not probe that IP further, try unusual ports, or invent a score for the failed apex.
www.wal-mart.com and walmart.com both landed on the same page
Then we tried the hyphenated www alias. https://www.wal-mart.com/ redirected to https://www.walmart.com/. Public DNS shows www.wal-mart.com is a CNAME to www.walmart.com. That scan scored 85 (B) on the same 408,909-byte HTML (fetch 2722 ms; warn title “HTML fetched in 2.72s”). Timestamp: 3:03 AM HST.
We also asked for https://walmart.com/ (no hyphen). The server redirected to https://www.walmart.com/, and Inspectrosite followed it. What came back was HTTP 200, truncated=false, title and single h1 “Walmart | Save Money. Live better.” (34 characters), about 330 visible words, and 30 images. That is the real store homepage, not a challenge or error page like Amazon’s bot-check, eBay’s 403, or Meta’s 400.
The primary scored scan (walmart.com → www.walmart.com) ran 57 checks: 38 passed, 10 warned, 4 failed, and 5 were info only. The HTML came back in 1507 ms (warn: “HTML fetched in 1.51s”). Inventory: 125 scripts (115 external, 10 inline), 30 images, 1 stylesheet, 77 links, 1 form, about 330 visible words. Detected tech (info only): Next.js.
The four fails, in plain language
HTML document is 399.3 KB
The HTML alone is 408,909 bytes, before images, scripts, or stylesheets load. Inspectrosite fails documents this large. The file still looks minified (0 HTML comments), but size is a fail on its own.
Duplicate IDs: gic-wrapper,
The tool’s fail title is exactly that string, including the trailing comma and blank. It listed
gic-wrapperand what looks like an empty second id. Duplicate IDs break anchor links, labels, andgetElementById(only the first match wins).Inline JS totals 248.0 KB
A lot of JavaScript sits directly in the HTML, so the browser can’t cache it between pages, and every load re-downloads it.
126 blocking resources (125 JS + 1 CSS)
125 scripts plus 1 stylesheet. Each file is another round-trip.
Ten warnings, grouped
- Fetch and head tags: HTML fetched in 1.51s; meta description is 179 characters (“It will be truncated.”); no favicon link found; no theme-color meta.
- JavaScript leftovers: console.log() leftovers found.
- Social: no Twitter/X card tag (Open Graph itself passed 3/3).
- Accessibility: 1 empty link. (Info only: no skip link.)
- Images: no modern image formats (WebP/AVIF) — 27 images use JPEG/PNG with no WebP/AVIF variant.
- Security headers missing: no
X-Content-Type-Options: nosniff; no referrer policy.
What looked solid
85 is a check average, not a grade of Walmart
Inspectrosite’s score is an average of the checks that count. A pass is worth 100, a warning 60, and a fail 0. Info checks are left out. So 85 tells you how this one homepage response did on our checklist. It isn’t a grade for Walmart the retailer, its stores, or shopping there. And the missing score for wal-mart.com is only a statement about what our proxy could reach.
Next to the earlier notes: google.com scored 75 and wikipedia.org scored 89, both on real homepages. hawaii.gov scored 67, and its portal scored 91. Amazon (82), eBay (78), and Meta (75) were all scored on pages visitors don’t normally see. Toyota’s homepage scored 78. Walmart’s 85 is a real homepage B — stronger than Toyota’s 78 and Google’s 75.
Scores change
These are scans from about 3:01–3:03 AM Hawaii time (HST) on November 6, 2026. Walmart can change its pages, DNS, and edge, and Inspectrosite gets updates too. Try wal-mart.com again, re-scan walmart.com, or try your own site.
