byteslip.org’s homepage scored 100 on Inspectrosite
By Johnny · Byteslip · scan run
After eight other sites, it felt fair to point Inspectrosite at our own homepage, https://byteslip.org/. It scored 100 out of 100, grade A. 51 scored checks passed, with no warnings and no fails. Four informational notes didn’t affect the number.
Disclosure first, and it matters more here than in any other note: Inspectrosite is Byteslip’s own free tool. We wrote the checks, and we also maintain this homepage. So this is Byteslip grading Byteslip with Byteslip’s ruler. A perfect score is not an independent third-party audit, and it doesn’t mean the page is perfect in every way a person (or another tool) might care about. The badge above is just a picture of our scan, not proof of anything. The real record is the scan itself, so you can re-scan byteslip.org and check our work.
100 means every scored check passed
Inspectrosite’s score is an average of the checks that count. A pass is worth 100, a warning 60, and a fail 0. Info checks are left out. When every scored check passes, the average is 100. That’s all it says. It says nothing about whether the writing is good, the apps are useful, or a different checklist would agree.
The request went to https://byteslip.org/ and stayed there (no redirect). It came back HTTP 200, not truncated, with 55 checks total: 51 passed, 0 warned, 0 failed, and 4 were info only. Inventory: 4 scripts (2 external, 2 inline), 16 images, 2 stylesheets, 40 links, 0 forms, about 493 visible words.
What the checks actually saw
One small thing worth pointing out: the page ships 10 HTML comments, and that still counted as a pass. The tool has its own bar for when comments look like raw dev output, and 10 didn’t cross it. So the page isn’t comment-free; it just didn’t trip that check.
Four notes the tool recorded but didn’t score
- Detected tech: Server: LiteSpeed. From the server header. Informational only; no stack is better or worse for the score.
- robots.txt lists 1 sitemap(s).
https://byteslip.org/sitemap.xml(listed, not fetched). - No form fields. The homepage has no forms, so there was nothing to label.
- No skip link (recommended). The tool’s words: “Nice-to-have: a “Skip to content” link saves keyboard users dozens of Tab presses.” It didn’t lower the score, but it’s a fair point and it’s on us.
Where this sits next to the others
The earlier notes: google.com scored 75, wikipedia.org scored 89, and hawaii.gov scored 67 while its portal scored 91. amazon.com’s bot-check page scored 82, ebay.com’s 403 page scored 78, and meta.com’s 400 page scored 75. toyota.com’s homepage scored 78, and walmart.com’s homepage scored 85 (wal-mart.com didn’t connect).
Before this, portal.ehawaii.gov’s 91 was the high mark among sites we don’t operate. byteslip.org is the first site in the series that we do operate, built by the same people who wrote the checklist, and it’s also a much smaller page than most of the others. Please read the 100 with that in mind.
